2024 年 11 月 21 日 [马萨诸塞州奇科皮] – Fifteen years ago, Monte Belmonte pushed an empty shopping cart from Northampton to Greenfield, hoping to raise $5,000 for the Food Bank. Instead, he raised $13,000, sparking a movement that has grown into the three-county, 43-mile March for the Food Bank.

这个 第十六届年度食品银行游行 将发生 Monday, November 25, and Tuesday, November 26. This year’s two-day trek from Springfield to Greenfield will once again be led by NEPM’s Monte BelmonteCongressman Jim McGovern和 Food Bank Executive Director Andrew Morehouse. As the Food Bank’s largest annual fundraiser, the event plays a vital role in supporting its mission and raising awareness about food insecurity across the region.

“Every step we take in this March represents our commitment to ensuring no one in our community faces hunger,” said Andrew Morehouse, Executive Director of the Food Bank. “More than 120,000 individuals seek food assistance every month – higher than during the height of the pandemic. This annual community event demonstrates the power of community. Everyone benefits when everyone is food secure.”

This year’s fundraising goal is $500,000 or the equivalent of 1.5万餐 for families across Western Massachusetts. Already, more than $101,000 has been raised. Reaching the $500,000 goal will also achieve the March’s 15-year cumulative total 过去 $ 4万元。

Food Bank Development Director Jillian Morgan 添加, “The outpouring of support this year is phenomenal. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of everyone who registers and fundraises alongside us, as well as our incredible sponsors. This event would not be possible without them!”

Media sponsors, WRSI 93.9 The River and New England Public Media will air special programming on food insecurity and hunger leading up to and during the march.
